Below is an interactive Flash module which will enable you to understand the relationship between a number line marked by integers and arithmetic problems that require you to find the sum of integers.

YOUR GOAL: YOU WILL MOVE DUDE BASED ON A PAIR OF INTEGERS THAT YOU WILL CREATE. DUDES FINAL POSITION AT AN INTEGER WILL REPRESENT YOUR ANSWER TO THE SUM OF THE TWO INTEGERS.

Step 1) Mouse click the button, , and you will generate two integers for you to add.

Step 2) Move Dude based on the 2 integers generated in Step 1.
... If one of the integers is negative you will move Dude left by by mouse clicking the necessary number of times.
... If one of the integers is positive you will move Dude right by by mouse clicking the necessary number of times.
