PRIME NUMBERS

-----------------------------------------------------------

A Prime Number is a whole number, greater than 1, that can be divided only by 1 or itself producing a remainder of 0.

The first few prime numbers are: 2, 3, 5, 7, 11, 13, 17,... etc.

ex. 1) 2 is prime since it is divisible by 1 and itself and produces a remainder of 0.

2 / 1 = 2 Remainder 0 and 2 / 2 = 1 Remainder 0

ex. 2) 17 is prime since it is divisible by 1 and itself and produces a remainder of 0.

17 / 1 = 17 Remainder 0 and 17 / 17 = 1 Remainder 0

-----------------------------------------------------------
FACTORS

-----------------------------------------------------------

"Factors" are the numbers you multiply together to get another number:

example 1) 3 and 2 are factors of 6 because they are numbers when multiplied produce 6.

    Factor   Factor
6 = 3 x 2

example 2) 9 and 4 are factors of 36 because they are numbers when multiplied produce 36.

    Factor   Factor
36 = 9 x 4

-----------------------------------------------------------
PRIME FACTORIZATION

-----------------------------------------------------------

"Prime Factorization" is rewriting a number as a product of ALL prime numbers.

example 1) 12 = 2 × 2 × 3 = 22 × 3 and 12 has been rewritten as a product of ALL prime numbers.

example 2) 27 = 3 × 3 × 3 = 33 and 27 has been rewritten as a product of ALL prime numbers.

-----------------------------------------------------------
THE PRIME NUMBER GENERATOR

-----------------------------------------------------------

Below is a module that will give you a number of results based on the number or numbers entered. Read the options below the module.

INSERT ONE NUMBER OR MORE SEPARATED BY A COMMA

EXPLANATION OF THE OPTIONS

FACTORIZE: This option gives you all the prime numbers of one or more number.

SIEVE: This option, the Sieve of Eratosthenes, is a simple, ancient algorithm for finding all prime numbers up to a specified integer.

IS PERFECT?: This option tells you whether the positive integer is perfect which means all the primes of the number, excluding itself, that will sum to the number entered.

ex. 1) 6 has the prime factors of 3, 2 and 1. Note that I have excluded 6. Since 6 = 3 + 2 + 1, 6 is considered "perfect."

PRIMES BEFORE: This option tells you how many prime numbers there are before the number that you have entered.

IS PRIME?: This options tells you whether the number entered is prime or not.

-----------------------------------------------------------
THE FACTOR PAIR GENERATOR

-----------------------------------------------------------

The module below will produce EVERY factor pair, i.e. a pair of factors, of the number entered.

For example if you enter in 12 you will get

factor pair = 12,1
factor pair = 6,2
factor pair = 4,3

Have a go at it below!

Enter A Number To Determine Its Factor Pairs
