WHAT IS PRECALCULUS?
------------------------------------------------
Pre-Calculus is an area of mathematics that is a combination of mathematical tools from the fields of Arithmetic, Algebra, Geometry, and Trigonometry. Precalculus is a preparatory course for a university/college Calculus course or for an Advanced Placement Calculus course generally taken in the junior or senior year of high school.
In precalculus you will study the topics of functions, graphs of functions, roots of functions, symmetric functions, inverse functions, translations of functions, series & sequences, parametric equations and vectors.
Once you have successfully completed a Pre-Calculus course, you will have the prerequisite skills necessary to study Calculus AB and BC at Deering High School.

THE ONLINE SUMMER STUDY GUIDE
----------------------------------------------------------------------------
Many of the skills you will need for Accelerated Pre-Calculus and Physics were
covered in previous courses thanks to the hard work of you and your former
mathematics and science teachers. However, it may have been a long time since
you systematically practiced these skills. This SUMMER STUDY GUIDE is a review of some of the
basic rules, definitions, ideas and skills taught to you in previous
classes.
As you work through this guide, try to make the vocabulary, definitions and
symbolic manipulations second nature so you will be able to use them quickly
and appropriately when you are studying Accelerated Pre-Calculus.
When you enter the Accelerated Pre-Calculus class in the fall or
spring, you will be tested on the concepts contained in this review guide. It
is your responsibility to practice and find the necessary resources to bring
your skills in accord with the demands of Accelerated Pre-Calculus. In so doing you will find this course more pleasurable.
Have a fantastic
summer!
